SEPST will as well read/and clear codes, live monitor of engine performance, has auto tune, adjust your VE tables, adjust spark advance, throttle progressiveness, turn off/on your knock code sensor for spark advance, adjust the amount of fuel coming out of your fuel injectors, etc to much to list.
I am sure they are all great tuners but IMO SEPST is no slacker. It is a quality product that one can tune their bike with. The ONLY thing that would separate them would be the use of a laptop to your bike while tuning. On the positive side of the laptop/tablet to your bike is the ability to live tune, smart tune, and to adjust in real time while riding the bike not install another code and hope for the best.
I guess I should have said "all without carrying or attaching a laptop". And unless I'm missing something, there are no laptop mounts for bikes such that you can monitor and see engine performance metrics in real time while you ride.
And the laptop issue is not minor when you are trying to tune your ride. Basically unless I misunderstand, you carry your laptop in your bag while you ride, and hope you hit as many cells as you can and find out after you stop. With a PV I can see that in real time because its mounted on my bars.
I used a Windows tablet with my SEPST to Smart Tune my bike. RAM Mounts can also set you up with a mount to mount it to the handle bars. I was able to use a towel and a bungie cord to secure mine between the bars and fairing. The screen on the tablet was hard to see in the sunlight but was good enough to see the smart tune cells populate. Not an ideal setup, but it worked.
Since I don't own any Windows computers the $100 tablet was a cheap solution for me. Next time I will probably go with a Power Vision since it is designed to do the same without the added cost of the tablet, cables and mount.
At the end of the day, you just need to choose what makes you happy. Tuner threads are pretty much like an oil thread, each person has a passion for the product they are using. I've used the SE Protuner, SERT, PCIII, PCV and the TTS. Presently I'm using the TTS, when I want to tune, I just hook up a remote monitor on a ram mount. FWIW, once its tuned I don't have a need to monitor engine functions, switch tunes. All I need to do is just add gas and ride.
I assume everyone who's a supporter of the tuners that allow you to tune while you ride, are also avid, dedicated, committed supporters of texting while you drive. Yes?
There are haters, and there are fanboys, for every tuner.
In talking to experts who have been doing this for years, including two guys who know the TTS founder personally, they all tell me the same thing:
There are tuners that are easier to use than the SEPST, particularly if you're a beginner, but if we're talking about tuning a Harley-Davidson motor, there is nothing that the SEPST can't do. Nothing.
As always, and as was mentioned several times above, it's the Indian and not the arrow. Unless you're already a world class tuner, it's better than you are.
Got rid of the cat yet?
If not, you are still restricting the possibilities.
If you plan to dyno, talk your selection over with the dyno guy.
The SEAC allows more in, no cat allows more out, the right tuner tweaked by a good dyno guy pulls it together in the business center.
I am fortunate that my Dealer has some great dyno guys that take the time to get all they can out of it. Canned maps will get you in the ball park, but getting spot on takes something better. The SERT pulled it all together quite well for me.
