Yes you'll need the 97-08 rack as mentioned. You will also need the docking kit and possibly relocate that license plate.

The chopped TP should fit. Might need to redrill holes for the rack though. Here's mine on my RK.

should fit perfectly from what I have researched, those are the same brand I am looking at if u would post how u like them once u have received them. I really like this way better than the extra bracket for the hd brand. I am just concerned why hd didn't use the back rest bracket to begin with $$$$$$$$$

Got a link? I have one like in the link I posted, but it's the only one I was aware of. It includes the spools you mention.

The mounting bracket (HD 4-point docking hardware) is separate and you'll need that specific year for your bike ('97-'08). There is an HD detachable conversion kit for your bike which has that mounting bracket and the tour pak mount rack - HD part # 53303-07.

Here's the conversion kit

Here's the mounting bracket on the bike.

Then you just mount your tour pak on the rack.

The whole purpose of the back rest mount is to eliminate the hoops.

I have a detachable forward tour pak bracket in chrome like you're looking for. The only problem is it's cantilevered out so far it vibrated the girlfriends back so much she'd talk funny. I purchased the rear docking station to use a detachable rack along with a detachable backrest and ordered a rear mount for my tour pak.
The forward mount is for sale....
