I was recently given a Ride Bell from an old friend.
You know...a Ride Bell, when given as a gift, doubles its power at keeping the evil road spirits away. Ya fasten it as near the ground as possible/reasonable...then it chases away the evil road gremlins to give us good luck on the road.
Do you have one or had you heard of this before?
Used too. I forgot and left it on my other bike when I traded after my wreck.
Well it seems Geico insurance has heard of the "road gremlins" if not the bell If you get to see the new Motorcycle insurance commercials they run now they show "Gremlins" causing all kinds of havoc for bikers and Geico says they will be there to help. In one ad they show the gremlins climbing up a palm tree and cutting off branches until the bike at the curb is in the sun Then they climb down and using two magnifying glasses, they heat the tar at the kickstand until it sinks in the tar and the bike falls over. Cute ads Definitly the Gremlins are getting more press than the bells Geico doesn't want us to know the bell will do the trick and much cheaper.
Bought one for my cousin for christmas. When my dad heard about the story, he went and bought me one.
Here at AZ bike week there were alot of inexpensive brass ones, $3, so I bought several to give to friends, of which I have none to speak of, here where I live.
It's funny cause I think superstition is BS, and will get you into trouble, but, when I hear the bell, hard to do over the exhaust noise, I start paying more attention and looking around for what may happen
When I got my bike - I swore I wouldn't get a stinkin' tinker bell on my bike...even relayed those exact words to a good buddy of mine - except before I even finished my sentence - he was handing me a bell he got for me...felt kinda silly - and then quickly put the sucker on. Mines up under the neck in front of the gas tank...I like it...its a Navy bell too; he & I were both in at the same time...means a lot to me now.
