Default Getting The Right Bars

I have had my bike a month (CVO SG) and just bought my 3rd pair of bars today (4th if you count the factory ones). Stock bars were too low. Got a pair of HD 12" apes, but never put them on after I sat on a friends bike with them. Bought a pair of 10" Yaffe Monkey Bars that have been on the bike less than a week, and I hate them. Rode up to Wild 1 Chubbys today and bought a pair of 12 1/2" bagger apes. I was trying to stay behind the fairing, but I need to be about shoulder height with some decent pullback to be comfortable. Hopefully these are the right ones.

I need to learn how to use E-Bay to get rid of all my extra bars now. Lol...

I have a pair of the 12 or 13 Monkey Bars, they are super comfortable for me, on my RK.

What is it about the bars that you don't like? Wrist angle, height?

Where do you live? You need to sit on some bikes that have had the bars changed out.

Get a friend to help you measure ,go out and sit on your bike close your eyes and stick your hands out. Have your friend measure height ,pb,and width . Do this several times and get a good average, then look for bars close as possible to those measurements.

It really is just this simple...I had a broom handle in my hands while doing this.

The problem is the fairing on the SG limits the choices. I had WO 12" Outlaws on my FB and they were perfect. 33" wide, flat wrist angle but plenty reach because you can move them back and forth. With the shape of SG bars, you have limited options because of their shape. You can move them back and forth a little, but you start to get weird wrist angles if you go too far. They also start at about 36" wide (the ones I just bought measured 35 1/2" tip to tip).

I ended up going with the traditional bagger apes because they have more built in pull back. Their Reapers are almost identical to my Yaffe's, and the don't recommend pulling them back much because of the way they are bent. If I had an RK or RG I could just put on a set of Outlaws and adjust them till they are comfortable like my FB. The fairing on the SG makes it more challenging. Hopefully the new bars work out...

I did the same thing with my FB ( also used a small broom). Worked good. I know I need about 12" to be comfortable. I was trying to stay behind the fairing but I can't deal with the low bars. Kills my upper back and neck.
