I currently ride a soft tail heritage , but have joined the Local HOG chapter and decided it's time to get a touring bike . I can't afford a new bike so I'm looking at some good used stuff. I have found a 03 RK classic , its in good shape with about 29,000 miles w/ cruise .security etc..for $7500. Also a 06 EGC with 21k miles. It will need some TLC to whip it into shape ,but it has no cruise. They will take $5600 , Then last , ran across an 07 EG ultra with 8kmiles for $9000. Well , I was wondering about cruise control , is it worth having ? I know that you cannot get a cruise kit from harley for the 06 EGC , it's discontinued. But netgoods.com sells a kit for $800 . is it worth messing with , seeing as I can get something else with cruise already. Just looking for insight from some one that rides one of the bikes mentioned above and what the best deal might be. By the way , RKC & EG ultra are all negotiable prices . The EGC is at an Indian dealer & $5600 is rock bottom.
Ridin 07 egc, came from 97 fatboy, night and day. Basically the bikes you mentioned are very similar, you have To figure what options you want,i really enjoy the stereo and hard bags. Great ride. The 6 speed is very nice when your running the hiway ,ride is way better than a softtail. Yeah I'm a little prejuduce
When my '03 had 30 k it needed the Tensioner Upgrade, rebuilt front calipers, shiftshaft seal leak repaired, new engine mount. So you should check if that stuff was done.
Lots of pros and cons to each. 06 has great heads, I think the 03 has a solid crankshaft vs welded, both have NO throttle by wire or catalytic converters. I believe the latter 2 is true of the 07 as well. Do the research and you will make the right decision. Good luck.
I found out about the cam tensioners after I bought my 2000 heritage . I did get lucky that the cam tensioners were new on my bike. Having said that, i really like the looks of the road king classic, but wanted something a little newer(although the wife like the RK). I am going look at the road king and the ultra tomorrow , Then i guess i will have to decide , Bike with windshield or bike with fairing.
