Default 08 Road King

I recently sold my 2003 100 Year Anniversary Model Road King and bought an 07 Street Bob. That was in August of 2015. I liked the Street Bob, it ran great and handled very well but I just never really loved it like I did the Road King. So I sold the Bob a few weeks ago and am now searching for another Road King. So I found one nearby, its an 08 silver Road King Classic. 35,000 miles, Screaming Eagle slip ons, K&N air cleaner, Mustang touring seat, detachable leather wrapped tour pack, new tires and the usual add ons. They are asking $10900, but after talking to the sales guy and making an offer, I am pretty confident I can ride it out the door for $9500.
First question- what should I be looking for in an 08? Any known problems? I have researched them and cant find anything that stands out.
Second question- is $9500 a good price? I have also researched the local bikes and it seems to be a pretty good deal. What say you fine folks?

NADA retail is $10,500. If you can get it for $9,500 that's pretty good. 35k isn't out of line for an 8 year old bike.

Only negative I'm aware of on an '08 is that all the major Touring model frame improvements were done in '09. If you're not in a hurry, you can probably get on '09 for the same money.

I am aware of the 09 changes but it seems around my area the 09 and newer bikes are going for $11000-$13000. I am not in a hurry by any means, its winter, there's a blizzard blowing up outside and I go for tendon surgery in my elbow in a little over a week which will leave me incapacitated for 6-8 weeks. I have a nice little pile of cash set aside so I might just hold out for an 09 or newer, but then again I'm a tight *** with my money, and I do like the 08... First world problems...

The only issue I've had with my '08 is the starter went out. Other than that its been very solid.

Good luck!

I know this much from experience. I wont buy a bike without having it on the lift and rotating the tire... primarily to see if you have a bouncing belt at the trans sprocket (and to see any leaks/ if I hear any noises).

First year throttle by wire. There were some hiccups. By now I would think that would have been dealt with. First year for 6 gallon tank which is a plus. Y pipes crack but that's an easy fix either through fullsac for a true dual conversion (cheap) or a complete new exhaust. Not as cheap. Rear tires are cheaper than 09 and up. Lots of bad press about death wobble. I've not experienced it on my 07 and I ride pretty hard. On my 98 I definitely did and it scared the crap out of me. Good luck

I have had my 08 Road king for just over a year now and love it. It only had 4300 miles on it at purchase but now has 10,000. No issues except for battery.

I have an 08 RKC, I've never had a problem. I installed a frame stabilizer on it - progressive touring link and it rides great. I have 35,000 on mine.
