Default Passing Lamps - When to use them?

Is there a rule among riders as to when and when not to use passing lamps (the two lights mounted to the right and left of the headlight)?

I've never had a bike with passing lamps installed and have been riding with them on all the time. Is that "wrong" ???

I do the same. Better to be noticed and it's the signature Harley look.

24/7/365

I have wired or flashed every bike I've owned to keep them on all the time.

At 75 mph they all look the same in the mirror. When riding with a group, we used to have only the last bike ride with the passing lamps on. This way you could easily identify that the last bike was still behind you, so everyone in the middle was also there. Good trick when you are touring with more than say three bikes. Much easier than trying to count how many bikes are behind you.

I use to turn them on and off, based on traffic. But you never know when you need better visibility, so I leave it on all the time.

I almost always have mine on, when I had Halogen bulbs I did turn them off unless in traffic or it was dark. The Halogens sucked too much juice in my opinion. Now with LED they stay on most the time.

I Also use protection film over the passing lamps in a bright yellow color to give the bike a slightly different look to just maybe grab the attention of a vehicle operator because it is different.
