Hello Everyone. I am a new guy here who needs help on trying to decide which bike to purchase. I wanta bike with Street Glide looks but with Ultra Classic features. Which is the better way to go, buy an SG and add stuff or buy an EGUC and strip and modify. My instincts tell me I'm going to save $$ and have less work with the EGUC but I'm not sure. Looking for some qualified opinions/advice. Thanks all!

Do yourself a favor and rent or at least ride both.

Also, don't overlook the R-Glide!

Only you can decide which one is best for you.

Hard choice, to be sure. Here's my take on pros and cons:

Pro, UC:

1. Loaded already, little to add except bling.
2. Traditional styling (pro or con depending on your POV)

Con, UC:

1. Traditional styling
2. Big and heavy, back seat irrelevant for solo riding, making Tour Pak hang out the back.
3. Not everyone will want or need lowers, but they can be removed. They're standard, so you're paying for them, which is a waste if you don't want them.
4. Not everyone wants or needs a CB and intercom.

Pro, SG:

1. Understated styling is appealing to most people.
2. Able to add only the accessories you want, but if you get carried away the price may exceed a UC. Removable Tour Pak is a must for me.

Con, SG:

1. Stiff ride from lowered suspension, and you may want to change to aftermarket shocks.
2. No saddlebag guards (I added them)
3. No passing lamps (unnecessary IMO, and ads more weight to the fairing)
4. No cruise control (a must-have accessory)

I have the SG and wouldn't trade it for a UC because I ride strictly solo. I have a removable solo tour pak and have added CC, oil cooler, saddlebag guards, etc.--and aftermarket shocks are coming.

Comparing the UC and SG, the best bike is something in between, IMO. If you're riding mostly two-up, I think either the UC or EGC would be a shoo-in. If not, I would go SG. The EGC is a very viable alternative to these other two, IMO, which more resembles a slightly stripped-down UC than an SG. Choices, choices.

I had the same decisionaweek ago before ordering my Street Glide. The decision to go with the SG was primarily due to the fact that I wanted to use it both in the city and on the highway. If you plan on riding 2 up most of the time go with the UC. I ordered theStreet Glide with the detacheable King Tour Pak, Stage 1 with S&S SPO mufflers and passenger footboards. The cost here in Canada for my bike was about the same after my upgrades as the UC but I have the look I want. Either way you can't go wrong. Ride Safe.

I did the same--just finished adding the UC Tour Pak---get the UC and use the money you save to get more chrome.

GO WITH THE UC!!!! I have a Street Glide and love it to death.....But, I've added all the UC stuff. (Lower fairing, tour pack, ect). Get the UC and strip it down. It's better to have and not need than need and have to buy it!!!!!

I bought the Ultra but also liked the SG. The SG seat height is lower than Ultra if that is needed. I like the extras like touring pak that comes with Ultra.

REALLY A PERSONAL DESICION. I WILL NEVER USE REAR SPEAKERS,CB,INTERCOM. Like cleaner tour pack and tank hood. Added cruise and lowers I got online, easily myself.

I also was in the same situation. I love the look of the SG and planned on making the tour pack removable right away and stick it in the garage for road trips. So I bought an Ultra. Well, I use the tour pack all the time now and don't know if I will ever make it removable. It is just so handy. I was on my way home the other night and remembered that we needed milk etc. No problem. I stopped off at the grocery store and picked up quite a few things. The tour pack was perfect for that. I carry map-books, googles, and all kinds of other stuff with me. It's really easy to open and use. I also like the extra lighting for safety. Go for the Ultra. You can always strip it down, although you may not after having it.
