My advice is to buy a new cotter pin. When you remove the old one, more than likely, you will not be able to straighten it perfectly. It is difficult to re-insert in this condition. Screwed with my old one until I saw the light. Picked up a new one, which made it relatively easy. Good luck. You will enjoy the EZ-brake.
Thanks, I mamaged to get it out ok, it looks like it will be a little harder to reinstall the cotter pin than removing it. I have cotter pins if a replacement does not come in the box.
While I'm waiting for it to show up, I figured I would go ahead and take the old pedal off. I have the service manual but can't tell if just the pedal can be removed. It walks you through the entire rear brake removal, master cylinder and all. I don't want to screw anything up by trying to take off the pedal by itself WITHOUT the ez-brake install instructions. Can I just remove the nut that holds the pedal on and remove it, being mindful of the piston rod that goes into the master cylinder? Like I said, I'm just trying to save some time.
The EZ Brake comes with a new pin. Yes, it's possible to remove the brake arm while leaving the master cylinder on the bike. There are instructions included with the EZ Brake that show how it's done.
Thanks everyone, UPS showed up and about a half hour later the brake and shifters are on. Looks sweet! Now for a test ride of, oh, how about the rest of the day??!!!
Give me until tomorrow evening (maybe late tonite, just got back from 130 mile test ride and about to go out again!)and I'll try to post some before and after pics.
This was a great mod, riding is sooooooo much more comfortable. The brake is where it should be from the factory, right at the toe. The shift levers leave tons of room for your left foot. Center of the front peg to the center of the rear peg is about 15.5".
I'm getting ready to leave and don't know for sure how to get the pics from there to this site. If someone wants to upload them that would be great, otherwise I'll try it later. A few of them are at a really high resolution so be warned. There are some older pics on it too, and one or two of my ugly mug!
