Default Headers install issue

Hey guys,

SO I am at the point of installing the headers. They are Arlen Ness redline tru-x. I have a 15 street glide special. I cannot get these headers to line up right and get the bracket over the threading enough to hold them in place. Is there a special way of doing this? I am almost convinced they dont fit.

Assuming you mean you can't get the brackets at the head started enough to get a bolt threaded....quite simply they can be a PITA in my experience. Watch the install video in fuelmoto's website for their jackpot exhaust. Might help.

Put the front pipe in holding the X-Pipe up and away from motor. Swing rear pipe into head and then lower the X-pipe portion down to the transmission bracket. It's not you. It's just a pain at times. Eventually it'll kind of pop into place.

Also just my observation. Last set I did (jackpot 2-1-2), I torqued the bolts at the head and ran the bike till the pipes got hot. Let it sit overnight. Then re-torqued before putting heat shields on. Probably overkill but they were no longer to spec when I checked after initial startup.

Good luck.

Thanks guys

I went and tried again, I think I can get it but I feel like I am having to pull on the rear to get it fitted, and guess I was apprehensive to mess it up assuming it was going to fit easily.

Now I am worried I jacked up the gasket. I took a few pics trying to show what I have going on. One of them is showing the front alligned and one is showing what the back looks like at the same time

They look like the stock beveled gaskets and they do look damaged. Are you sure that header uses the same as stock and not the flat gasket? That could be the reason you're not getting it in far enough. Compare the end of the stock header to the one your trying to put on do they look the same?

Yeah the exhaust says to use the stock version. I got them on finally but think Im going to start over next weekend and get new gaskets. I think I was just being too gentle with them in the fear of messing something up.

The pics look like the bike is standing on it's rear tire.

Seems like it would be easier if it was siting on both wheels.....

so when you try to put both pipes in the exhaust the seem to short? I had a header pipe like that that was 1/2 inch or so to short and i had to put it in a vice reverse a set of long clamps so they would spread, heat up one pipe near the collector untill it spread, be careful not to go to far than let it cool before removing clamp, fits good,no effort.

I've done enough to tell you that getting in the rear can be tough at times ................ no pun intended . Patience ............... there I did it again.

If you're gonna redo the gaskets, practice placing the header with the botched ones. Once you perfect it, put in the new gaskets. Use tie wraps to stage the clamps up.
