there's no reason to run straight pipes on a street bike - you'll only bring the long arm of the law down on the rest of us - California is already banning the sale of performance parts - won't be long before the rest of the country joins in the stock exhaust only bandwagon
Back it down a notch Joe, First of all my fishtails have baffles, all I'm telling the OP is that Fishtails are loud with or without baffles. I don't hit the throttle hard out of respect for people in my town but regardless, where I live people know when a HD motorcycle heads out of town on the highway. Save your criticism for bikes you have actually heard.
I have a 2007 Road King Classic and have been looking at some fishtail slip ons. Originally I was looking at the Vance and hines 16755's but now I've heard back from a few people that have them and they wish they were louder.
I see Samson has some. Any others? I'd like them LOUD and not super long!
Thank you for the advice.
I guess its a matter of taste, I have the vance & hines for about three years, looks great but too me they started getting too loud so I put quiet baffles in and love the sound. I do a lot of long trips and the original baffles would kill my ears, around town they were fine.
I think at this point its between the Vance and Hines and the Bassani's w baffles. I was leaning toward the Bassani's after hearing Johnnie's video. Pythons were thrown in there too but I haven't looked at those.
The Ebay pipes are tempting.....but....
I'd like to try both and keep the one's that sound best. Hard to choose.
I have heard about the performance loss, but I like the look and it can't be all bad since there are so many happy fishtail owners out there. :-)
Before anyone gets too off track. I ran the cheapo ebay fishtails. I ran them with the stock headpipe WITH the converter still intact. If that is what people are running, I can ASSURE you, your not gonna loose gobs of performance with these pipes. You won't GAIN any, but the stock cat is more than adequate at providing whatever back pressure is needed to get the exhaust working well. Make no mistake, its not the best setup you can run, but it's hardly the worst.
Edit: I think of them as CFR type pipes. Sound really cool, but not the performance kings of some other slip ons. But still worth it. IMHO

bikerlaw....how different is your 2013 to my 2007? Everything motor wise on mine is still stock. I have some RUSH slip on's on there now but that is it. I may try the ebay ones just for fun....

murph where did you get your baffles?
Nope, direct bolt on. They actually will give the bike the true fishtail rap, just not as loud as a non converter bike would be.
Edit: Just realized YOU have an 07. Yeah, baffles for sure. Lol

I have run the eBay fishtail on tons of bikes. Without baffles or a converter, they are torque robbers for sure. So just keep that in mind. But holy crap do they blast when unbaffled!!! No way would I run them unbaffled, you would go deaf!
