Go with a colder spark plug, experiment with various brands of Premium fuel. Also try an Octane booster just out of curiousity and see if it helps? Just some suggestions. In addition to either a ThunderMax or PCIII and proper dyno-tuning needless to say.
Add the race tuner and have it dyno tuned in by a good harley shop in your area, use only the highest grade octane as it says in the owners manual and you will see a world of change. Stock download works for some but not all. Oh, and please disengage your Caps lock, are ears are ringing
Had similar problems with 05 std, bad valve seals, plugs fouling, fixed under warrenty.
That's an interesting point!
The 05/06's have the "new style" (crummy) seals. I have seen them leak like crazy and could imagine that on oil soaked plugs there could be issues. I would not have expected detination, though. Anything is possible....
However, I also agree with those that have suggested a proper tune and 93 octance fuel.
Sorry... no single answer on this one. There are several possibilities and things to check.
Welcome to the forum.
I also have an 05 Electra Glide (classic). My selling dealer was unable or unwilling to fix it.
took it to another dealer who "replaced the valve stem seals and resurfaced the sticking valves".
Pinging is completely gone and it performs better than new.
I had installed a Revtech DFO in order to combat the pinging to no avail.
I took it off before taking it in when the valve stem seals were replaced.
I still have not reinstalled it as the engine does not ping at all any more.
this other dealer has restored my faith in HD. I was begining to think I had bought a lemon.
By the way using all CAPITAL letters is somehow consideredyelling on a forum.
Well a couple things come to mind.
Poor or wrong grade fuel could cause the symptoms, but not likely to the extent
of engine damage.
Apparently the timing and fuel /air mixture was off.
this could be caused by wrong mapping of the ECM (whether dyi or dealer).
Or the Ecm could have failed or one of the sensors that feeds data to the ECM.
After repairs I would Definitely have ALL the sensors input and output signals verified.
And if a pciii or suchwas installed have it double checked.
This is one of those things that has no easy answer and requires an intelligent and dedicated and experienced tech to go the extra mile to determine the cause.
91 octane is all i use and is the highest i can find here in arizona, and also tried octane booster , new valves were installed, plugs are burning good, thanks anyway, i am concern about sensor problems which i will have checked out.
Switch over to a GOOD Synthetic oil, not that Harley crap. Love their bikes but they can keep their oil. Amsoil, Royal Purple or Mobile1 are the top 3. Any one of them is far better than HD oil.
