My 2012 FLHTK was pinging something awful under load right in my cruising range (2500-3000 rpm) so I took it to Stick Engineering in Apache Junction, Arizona. Dave spent the morning on the dyno dialing in the tune, and all of the pinging is gone. As a bonus, I picked up 3 hp and a little more torque, too. I would highly recommend these guys for great work at a fair price.
My bike has the Fuel Moto 2-1-2 header, E-series mufflers, air cleaner kit and a Power Vision tuner with a map that Fuel Moto provided. Stock cams. It ran strong except for the pinging. Stick Engineering charges $75/hour, and they were done in under 3 hours. The first pull on the dyno was 75.93 hp/96.19 torque and the final was 79.16 hp/ 98.34 torque. Runs perfect with zero pinging. I am very pleased with the result.

This is my first EFI motorcycle. Our bikes require a great tune to run correctly not like the carb days when a mikuni flatside seem to work on everything. Stock my bike pinged like crazy not to mention the lack of performance. Stage 1 and a dyno tune by the dealer helped a lot but I still have ping when trying to maintain speed in fifth and sixth from 2700 rpm and up. No ping when I accelerate. Going to Rob's Dyno in Gardner, Massachusetts when the weather breaks to get it done right.
I am very surprised. Sounds like fuelmoto had that bike dialed in. Except for the pinging.
Wondering if you have some bad fuel? What octane?
Fuel Moto didn't tune the bike, they just sent a map with the Power Vision. I just moved from Oregon to Arizona. In Oregon I was running 93 octane pure gas, but down here in AZ they only have ethanol crap gas. I always run premium and it ran well in Oregon.
If you have one of the fuel/air management systems (I thing they are called this) such as Dynojet's, FuelMoto's, or others,--then, knowing your modifications from stock will give you a MAP sufficient for anyone who is not a fractional horsepower-power advance freak. If you have pinging, there is either something wrong with the MAP you loaded or the fuel you use--or, of course, the way the modifications were installed.
The entire dynomometer industry is based upon fools paying hundreds for something that won't make a rat's *** worth of difference if the MAP is even CLOSE to correct. Perhaps if you are a racer there might be a marginal benefit. Anybody on a Touring cycle is just damn stupid to go this route.
