I appreciate the input,
I don't foresee myself doing too many more upgrades just wanted to complete the exhaust system and tune it if required after reading several posts some say to do it others say don't bother
just wanted to play it safe its my first HD
cheers
My point basically is this....whether you take it back to the dealer for a download or not it's still gonna run lean and hot. A tuner of some sort would be the better option.
ok that clarifies the previous statement
so I should get a programmer that I can manually adjust the A/F ratio
I guess my next question is how do I know what the optimum setting is
- just keep checking the plugs??
I will do some research..... is there a type you would recommend??
sorry for all the Q's
I used to ride a Jap bike and trying to get a lil more familiar with the HD

There's lots to choose from. You have the piggy back style that basically tricks the ECM. Then you have the flash style that completely reconfigures the ECM. The Power Vision (PV) from DynoJet is a very good tuner. If purchased through Fuel Moto (HDFORUMS Sponsor) you have unlimited access to their maps and support as well. There are other tuners as well but this would be my choice. Lots of great features and along with the support from FM it'll cover anything you ever want to do to your bike.
We have Stage one on two Ultra Limited's. Vance and Hines Power Dual Headers, V&H Monster Oval Mufflers and a Hi flow Air cleaner. I bought a DynoJet Power Vision Tuner for each bike and couldn't be happier. Easy to install the new map and to run a few Auto-Tunes. I don't see any need for a Dyno Tune and if I add cams or do eng. work I just find a map to match those changes and Auto-Tune again. Call Fuel Moto and talk to them about it: http://www.fuelmotousa.com/
Good Luck

You do know you could've tuned both bikes with the same PV dontcha. The only difference is the patch cord used to connect to the bike. The PV itself is identical for Rushmore and Pre Rushmore bikes.

I am aware of that Both units were bought used and re licensed for these bikes. I have about $600 in the pair so less than the price of a new one with an added license. If you look at my sig you'll see both our bikes are Rushmore's so they take the same cable.
I ran into the same issue your having on what to do. I was going to have the dealer just flash my 2014 with the new air cleaner and slip-on but for what they wanted I picked up the PV from Fuelmoto and haven't looked back, they are great to deal with and with the autotune feature you can get finer adjustments than just the box tune. It will at least get you buy till you go overboard and need the full dyno tune but even by then your tuner will still be there for you. I just got the email from Fuelmoto (unlimited support)so I can now install my new head pipe.

Ok good deal. I can't see your sig and was going off memory which can be dangerous. Thought you still had the '12 Limited.
