Default Electrical issues

So does anyone have any experience with wiring ever having a short that their turn signals, horn, and stereo don't work, but the bike starts, and runs just fine? My accessory fuse keeps blowing when i switch on the bike.

I've been trying to diagnose the problem but there's a short and I found that my front brake line was getting HOT! (hot enough to heat the rubber and have the wiring harness for the handlebars to melt to it)

It's an 08 Electra glide standard (pretty sure it's past the "warranty" time) and It has 42000 miles on it. I just bought it and to be honest was taken as a fool for buying the bike and it was for such a small price (5K) and thinking it might not have many issues.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to rewire the back turn signals (aftermarket put in but not Harley ones) I'm including pictures to have you all (1) learn from my mistakes and don't do what I did and (2) hopefully get some help regarding the problem and help me diagnose it.

I have fixed a few bikes with that short..does your fairing shake excessively ?. I found the short in the fairing by the brake side upper brace, and one beside the factory radio cooling fins. Very small nicks in wire, really only seen it on radio find where it rubbed. The one that rubbed on upper brace was hard to see also.hope this helps.the braces can be fixed pretty easy also.

It vibrates a bit but I'm not sure whether it's been vibrating "too much" I haven't ridden enough to know the difference but for sake of arguement I'll say yes and start looking for shorts there. I hope that you're right, it would make this a lot easier. Thanks

I'm just guessing here but maybe your ground to the upper triple clamp is bad and the current is trying to flow through the brake lines.

These types of electrical problem are often mechanical, in other words a defective ground, damaged wire etcm, as already suggested. They can be a devil to track down sometimes! Use a multimeter to test for continuity and resistance on the wiring related to the accessory fuse and brake switch.

Another possibility is any wiring done to install your apes. They are a common source of problems, if HDF threads are anything to go by, especially if internally wired.

I'd deal with electrical issue for a 5k bike, and not see myself as a fool for it.

Sounds like the shorts in the front end, forks aren't grounded and the brake line is carrying the ground.
Find the plug for the lighting and start disconnecting wires until you find the bad one.
