Maybe I missed it but I don't see the year of your bike. If it's a 2013 or less and has a real cigarette lighter, power isn't' a problem. The current required to heat a coil red hot is way more than the current drawn by a GPS. Try another charger plug, one with a 2 amp output. Especially since you said that it does slow the GPS battery discharge down. That tells me that it's getting charging current, just not enough.
Just installed an old Magellan GPS on my Electra Glide. I bought a short 2 amp usb plug for the cigarette lighter. I use the usb cord to charge the gps. With the bike on and gps on it shows to be charging. While riding the battery slowly dies in the gps even though it shows to be charging. Anybody else seem to have this problem? What do yall use to charge a gps? Im wondering if the gps isn't getting enough amps from the charger or if the gps battery is no good.
Install a USB power port from eBay, they're cheap. Make sure you have a high quality cord also.
If this does not cure your problem the mini usb plug in the back of the unit is coming loose. Sometimes a good quality mini usb plug can solve this issue as well as some tape around it. The most common issue with GPS units, regardless of brand is the mini usb plug on the back of the unit that is less than 100% reliable in the presence of vibration. The micro (not mini) usb plug used on most smart phones is an improvement.

The bike is a 2011 and I am using a 2amp charger. The gps is a 2009 and im thinking the battery is bad
Hello, I just wanted to get this straight. I have a 2011 Ultra and I am looking at the Aukey as well. I read some reviews that said one of the Aukeys wouldn't work in certain vehicles because it was to short. I like the idea of it being flush or close to it anyway so it wont hit the tank. I have been looking for right angle USB cables as well. What actually was your solution? I am ready to pull the trigger on the Aukey but I have another in mind also from Amazon. Thanks!
I use right angle cables and USB ports on the handlebars from 3BR Powersports. OP, try moving the whole setup to a vehicle. If the problems follows, then swap out known good parts from the power source working back towards the GPS.
