Default Charging GPS

Just installed an old Magellan GPS on my Electra Glide. I bought a short 2 amp usb plug for the cigarette lighter. I use the usb cord to charge the gps. With the bike on and gps on it shows to be charging. While riding the battery slowly dies in the gps even though it shows to be charging. Anybody else seem to have this problem? What do yall use to charge a gps? Im wondering if the gps isn't getting enough amps from the charger or if the gps battery is no good.

Your GPS is drawing more power than the outlet is outputting. Per the manual, the cig lighter shouldn't be used for electronics. I don't know it's max output, but I doubt its giving the 2A that the adapter can output.

The gps says it only needs 1 amp on the back which is why Im surprised its not working better. I am also wonder what others are using to charge their GPS units as well. I know the cigarette lighter isn't the best power source but if it works in cars I thought it would work on the bike.

Another aspect to consider is the charging cable being used. Is it the OEM cable that came with the unit? If not, then it could be a crappy cable that isn't allowing the full 1A to get to the unit. Or, if its old, it could have broken down a bit inside, causing more impedance.

I plug my Garmin Nuvi into the cig lighter. I use the OEM cord. Works great.

was it a $2 china USB plug? They might not be up to the rating on the label.
Try a different one.

It's not a cheap $2 plug. The brand is Aukey. It has good reviews on Amazon. Guess I will try it in the car to make sure its not the bike. If that's no difference then I guess try another cable and plug.

Yes it works lol. It will charge the gps if its off. Plus it slows down the speed in which the battery dies.

Are you powering the GPS directly or thru a cradle?
