I changed to Amsoil Severe gear oil last change. No complaints shifts good. I only put 2500 miles on bike last year..busy with work and golf !. So this spring I changed the engine oil but I wonder if I need to change transmission oil with low miles on it ? And then I see I have Redline gear oil on my garage shelf I must have bought to put in someday. Isn't that the ugly pink stuff ? Anyone really like it or wish they had not used the redline gear oil for the Harley transmission. ?
Advice listened to.
i changed to the severe gear oil when i did my 1k service. bought the bike in 2013. just did my 20k service yesterday and changed the tranny oil for the second time. personally, i wouldn't change yours out this early, but do what makes you feel comfortable.
the 'ugly pink stuff' is pretty good stuff. theres always going to be someone who complains, but i've seen very few of those. i've used it before, and the only thing keeping me from using it again is the cost.
I went with Baker transmissions recommended oil, Spectro heavy duty full synthetic 6 speed transmission oil. Very happy with the way my transmission feels and sounds. Baker really knows there stuff, did extensive research and testing before recommended.

Concerning shifting there are two things:
- Soft, firm, silent gear changes depend on the condition of your clutch.
- The sound made by the transmission and the accuracy of the shifting come from the condition of your gearbox.
You can pest, repair or modify either one, they will perform individually. Shelf life of unopened gear oil should cover the next decade
