I ran with a Reckless fairing, wasn't all that impressed with the sound everything washed out at highway speeds and I found myself always messing with the radio on my 07. Sold the fairing went the Boom method, same problem they washed out.
Fast forward a few months later Verizon screwed up, and gave me a big credit on my account, went and bought a set of these LG Tone (this is the newer version mine are the 910 you can get them on amazon for about $90) this is the hands down best way to get music on a roadking. It drowns out the wind noise when you're not listening and saves your ears like wearing traditional plugs, you can listen to music off your phone, the wires retract so you only have what you need out. Previous attempts at ear buds always had cords flapping in the wind or I had to spend 5 minutes routing them into my jacket.
Added bonus you get GPS through your earbuds also, which is super convenient when you're trying to find a new place. I never would have thought i would have used these things so much but they're truly fantastic.

Did you have the CD player in the fairing? I only ask as I went with the Infinity PVR250 and Polk 6.5" speakers and at 80mph I can still hear it. I was afraid the sony CD player wouldnt have the power to overcome the wind washout.
