Default lowering front end: price?

I have been quoted by two different dealers...one at 5 hours/$78 an hour and another at 3-3.5 hours/$62 an hour. I have an appointment with the second. I was just wondering how many hours some of you have had it done in? 06 Road King front lowering kit...I did the rear myself.

I did my old RKC in around 2.5 hours. A fairing bike might take a little longer.

I was doing a bunch of stuff when I did mine, and it was my first time...I think 3.5 hours is reasonable for the job. Have you considered doing it yourself, its not too bad a job Also consider doing the chrome front end at the same time, saves doing the labor twice

Dealer books it at 4 hrs. At least that's what mine was.

I didn't have any of the "special tools" required for the job. Take a 6 sided 6mm socket and a 6mm allen, cut off the angle, and you have one of the special tools. A bench vise with soft grips is what I used and a set of channel locks to get the caps off so that you can remove and install the fork tubes. I can't say enough times replace the upper seals, no matter what anyone tells you. Have the factory servoce manual handy (fluid levels and things) Your good to go.
Do a search in the DIY section on this, its very helpful info there.

Good Luck!

I second 04Harleyboy's sentiments. I've done my front forks twice now, once when I installed the lowering kit and the second when I changed to the powder coated forks sliders/upper covers. I didn't have any of the special tools either. Made the 6 mm allen driver as was described, I made my own forktube holder from some 1" stock steel, and used a 1.5" PVC tube coupler to drive the fork seals in. For the fork caps your tool kit that came with your bike has a 36mm wrench in it for the rear axle nut, this is also the size of the fork caps. If you have the service manual (which I would highly suggest having if you're gonna do any of your own work) this is totally a doable job. It'll take you a little longer than a harley tech especially the first time, but in the end it'll be worth the time spent and money saved.

I did it at the same time as the wheels, but no noticable difference in the ride at all. But with the wheel swap, the shorter side wall increased the handling a lot!
