I too went with the HD Hi-Vis gear. Have only used it a couple or three times but was worth it every time. I took a ride out to Buffalo a couple years ago and got caught in a horrible storm. Pulled over under an over pass to put on my gear. Rode the next several hours in the mess. Was perfectly dry. Last year I went out to Ohio and took Rte 90 again. Got stuck in rain in just about the same area. Nice and dry once again after about an hour in the rain. You get what you pay for

Not so. Have worn my cheapy for days at a time on tour. e.g Rainconia and 2 1/2 days of rain coming back from Daytona last year. (But then I don't generally rest my legs against my pipes.) ;-)

I can't really imagine paying $150 or more for rain gear. And it's not that I can't afford it.

Good stuff aint cheap. You can save some buying on sale. Just spent the last 3 days riding in heavy rain and wind. I like my HD rain gear . I wear it often. It beats the heck out of the cheap frog stuff. Never going there again.

Hi too have the HD Hi-Viz. I've owned it for 2 -3 years and used it twice. BUT, IT DID THE JOB. By riding buddy went cheap (I think he got that frogg suit) and cussed like I never heard him cuss before.

Yeah, most likely you won't use it often, who plans on riding in the rain. But if you're caught in the rain, you're gonna want something which still keeps you dry, not gonna feel like 50 extra pounds on you and not gonna burn quickly if you touch your pipe.

Wore this Xelement suit from Leatherup.com for several hours in moderate to heavy rain from Windham, NY to Carlisle, PA. Total of about 4 hours or so. Came out totally dry with the exception of my hands. I paired it up with tourmaster gaiters.

Now here's the disclaimer, the outside temperature was reasonable, so I wasn't sweating. This suit does as good a job keeping the rain out as it does keeping the heat and sweat in, so if you're wearing it on a warm day, you might end up pretty moist.
