Good morning I'm new to this group and looking for a little info and to give a little info when ever I can.. That being said I finally mounted my new 14" apes on my 09 FLHX things went pretty good I still have to bleed the brakes put the ignition back in etc.No big deal here's my problem though I had a mechanic friend of mine extend the wires since he's had problems with internal ran wires before he talked me into leaving them external I went to put on the brake and clutch housings and there's no recess for the wires like on the stock bars does any one have suggestions on how I can mount my controls. Without taking all apart and internally running the wires I'd like to leave them external now. Thanks Randy
No need to double post randy, your mechanic friend doesn't know what he is talkin about, I assume he just didn't wanna take the time to run the wires internally. The only issue I csn think would happen would be a loose connection which would be caused but your mechanic.. 1 guy told you no, alot of us on here would tell u to do it. Save the hassle and run then internally
Sorry about that.. I'm debating running them internally... Thanks for your input. I wanted them internal but he talked me out if it. Guess I'll pull her apart and redo... Thanks.

Dnt take anything I said in an assholeish way lol.. I don't see any benefit to leave then exposed unless your worried about this extensions. Hopefully he staggered and soldered the joints. If there's a question about his work you could always plug them up and see if everything works before getting them in the bars.. Now is the time to do it before you get everything together and realize you just sent x amount of money on bars for look and comfort reasons but you uglied them up with wires all over the damn place
If you try to clamp those housings down with the wires external, you will pinch some of those wires and cause lots of problems. The apes are not made to have the wires external as there is no dimple on the bars for the wires, only a hole to run them internally.
What guntoter said. You'll end up severing the wires. Just take the time to route through the new bars. I've found long zip ties work well to fish the wires. Tape the wires in a staggered pattern to the zip tie.
Thanks for the heads up every one. I went out to start to wire them internally I was taking the wires apart and I noticed right away a broken wire right at the plug for the right side the grey with green stripe I could fix but I paid someone to rewire the new bars for me. So I'm going to take them back to him to fix that and to run them internally like I wanted in the first place. Thanks for all suggestions guys. I'm not going to slam this man who did the wiring on the bars because mistakes happen and he's a super nice man who will make things right. Good job is still a bit cool here in southern Ontario not rideing yet anyway.
