Default Black bolts - paint em ?

I have a bunch of bolts that I'd like to be black.
I was thinking painting them would be much easier while on the bike and wondering if anybody knows what kind of paint I should use ?
I've also heard about black nail polish. Has anyone ever tried that?
I just don't want something peeling off after a couple rains or washes.

on older bikes, steel parts were sometimes parkerized ( a black finish). the Eastwood company has kits to do yours at home.

I've used these kits for parkerizing and cad plating fasteners on my '53

nail polish dries hard and brittle and will flake off- look at any 12 year old girl's hands.
I often use nail polish painted on threads to lock fasteners in place

If you try painting them while they're still on the bike you'll never be riding it because you'll be taping them off to prevent overspray until about this October. The best way is to pull them off the bike and let them soak for a while in some acetone or other cleaner that will remove any oil, dirt, or grease and not leave a residue. Make some small exes in a piece of cardboard and push them through leaving the heads exposed. Spray with a very light coating of primer so the paint has something to adhere to, then after drying, hit them with some general purpose black of your choice, gloss or matte. Re-install on the bike and touch up any spots that may or may not chip off with a hobby brush dipped in the black.

Or go to ACE Hardware and get some of the same bolts in Black Chrome.

I painted my bolts about 3 years ago. Black spray can from ACE, nothing special. They are still black...

Appliance Epoxy - comes in spray and brush versions. A lot stronger than ordinary enamels. Just make sure you clean the bolts well before using.

Default Metal blackening

I've used automotive high temp ceramic base paints in the past. Just be sure to clean parts well and make multiple light coats

I powered coated mine. I bought half of the bolts I needed new. Powered coated them, installed them and then power coated the ones I took out.
Bike was never down...
