Sir you are correct.
I guess either way is acceptable, but IMHO getting the measurement parallel to the shock eye to eye is most desirable.
Many folks just go by recommendations as to how many rounds, numbers, or psi, but nothing beats physical confirmation with an accurate measurement of sag with proper relation to how much shock travel you have to work with, generally accepted as one third of available travel to put your butt in the zone!
