They did not mention the oem parts. I just assumed that I would be getting them with the bike.

DO NOT ASSUME! Call and ask, my guess is that they are keeping take offs.

If you are the least bit handy, you can save a bundle just doing the installs yourself. This way you get you know your bike while working on it.

My dealer gives a great discount when ordering parts when you buy your bike.

Make sure the parts are EXACTLY what you would install on your bike. Otherwise not even a choice for me.

Looking like less of a deal to me for sure... My dealer gives me at the very least 10% off all parts for at least a year after buying a bike, and most of those parts you would have been able to install yourself.

I think you can do better on your own. Even if they give you all of the take offs and you try to sell them you are never going to get anywhere close to what they are charging you. Buy a stock bike, then think about how you want it to look. Then during winter tear it down and paint/powder coat the parts the need to be done. Save your self the money of not having to buy 2 sets of everything.

I did my whole bike. The only extra stuff I bought were a set of take off lowers. That way the could be powder coated and then I took my forks to dealer and had them installed (I hope that makes sense). All of my powder coated parts were once chrome and came with the bike. Even the engine covers

Don't be afraid. There are always plenty of people that will be here to help and answer questions. Take lots of pictures during the tear down to help put it all back together. Buy a service manual for all of your torque specs. But most of all have fun and make it your own......by you....not some dealership.

I am looking at just getting a new stock sgs. I am fairly mechanically inclined and would love to do a lot of the work myself. If I do the work myself (ie the bars, exhaust, intake and get if flashed at dealership)and a few other things off the bat, will that good my warranty?
