I like my semi-solid rear wheel on my sportster, no inner tube needed, flats can be fixed on the road if needed, chrome and always seems to need cleaning but as for winds? I think it makes no diff (IMHO).
On your bike with the factory front I suggest a Fatboy rear. You can paint the inside of the wheel a color to match the front and then polish the rim edges on both front and rear so they are close in appearance. I have run many different rims in the past and even though I am a function over form kind of idiot it eventually bothered me to have the visible edges ot the rim no be close in appearance.
I had fat boy solid wheels on my last road king without any wind issue and have a solid alum dish 17" breakout wheel on the rear ofmy current Electra glide without any issues. Also had a solid dish on the rear of my rigid springer chopper. Have always liked the solid wheel look.

17"?...You mean from a "Deuce"?...Breakout's are 18"
Regardless...2009 Electra Glide?
If so, did you eliminate cush drive (IDS)? or use bolt-on cush?

Running a 200x17 tire, it is a polished aluminum dish wheel. Was told it was off a breakout but I don't keep up on all the models. Didn't think deuce had wide rear? But whatever, yes I did away with the Cush drive (don't miss it), running a sportster pulley 68 tooth pulley and custom spacers.

OK...good info
200...Yeah, not Deuce...too much tire for 4.5". Probably 17x6" FXST wheel
I really like the idea of running a FB rear wheel with an Air Strike front that I just picked up locally. What years will bolt right on my 04 Ultra. My stock rear is 16 by 3.
I have a solid rear wheel on my 07 Night Train with 200MM tire, laced wheel in front. I can't say that the wind has ever affected it and it's plenty windy here in North TX.
