Default Anyone Run a Solid Rear Wheel?

Been looking to upgrade to some custom wheels. Since I've got a bagger and you wont see the rear at all, I am considering just installing a solid chrome wheel there and leaving the style to front rim. OCD wont allow me to leave the stock rim in place but I can get myself to accept a solid rim there in a matching finish.

I have some Fat Boy buddies that complain about how the wind affects their ride due to the solid rims. Wondering if anyone has experienced this on a bagger? Not sure if only the rear rim being solid would be an issue or not.

Back in the early 90's I put a set of Sturgis Wheel Company solid wheels on my 83 FLH. I rode that bike in many different configurations, fully dressed(fairing, bags, tour-pac) to fully stripped(absent of all) and never really noticed much difference. When it's windy, you get shoved around on a decker regardless. JMO

I'm new here. I ride an 08 Electra with the tour pack off. Basically, in street glide form. I have a 21" front wheel, with a fat boy wheel out back. My trip to work is 48 miles, and the same back. I live on the texas gulf coast. It's always windy. When I ride, It really doesn't seem too bad to me. You can barely see the wheel under the bags, so I don't think it'd make a difference.

Default Interesting

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. Air strike on the front, fat boy on the rear. Doesn't seem like a solid on the rear would have any effect at all, being buried between the bags. Trying to find one cheap, cause I'm a cheap ***.

I would really recommend you get the black solid fat boy style wheel for the back. Do you really want that big chrome piece under there? If you are really that OCD the fact that it needs constant cleaning will drive you crazy. I know it would me. The black wheel needs no polish. Hose it off and be done.

Cool

I have an Air Strike front and Deuce rear on my Glide. The only photo I have at present is a mock-up:

I had a 1990 Softtail custom that came with a solid rear wheel and spoke front. aka, laced wheel. I have been thinking of going back to that combo on my 2000 FLHT std. if not a solid wheel at least cast spoke on the rear. Thanks, made up my mind going with a cast spoke on the back.

Default Solid rear wheel

I had a hardtail with a 21" front spoke and a fatboy solid rear wheel. I never had any problem with the wind. I think the front may be more of an issue than a solid rear.

That and a chrome wheel might act like a disco ball in there and draw attention. Id rather it disappeared.

I had fat boy solid wheels on my last road king without any wind issue and have a solid alum dish 17" breakout wheel on the rear of my current Electra glide without any issues. Also had a solid dish on the rear of my rigid springer chopper. Have always liked the solid wheel look.
