Default RG conversion ?

I have a 2012 ultra classic, what do you guys think converting it to a RG would do to the resale value of the bike. As of right now i dont plan on trading it in but also dont want to lose alot of value if i do decide to trade it in a few years.

Its a very expensive and time consuming modification, you are usually better off just selling and buying what you want. It can be done and it will indeed look and feel like a RG, but the title won't match and they for sure will cause an issue on resale with some buyers.

Unless you can find a steal on all the parts needed I wouldn't recommend. I had a friend to do a RK and it turned out great but he worked at a dealer and did all his own work.

You will severely damage the value to anyone considering buying a used Ultra Classic, because your motorcycle will no longer be an Ultra Classic.

Your motorcycle will be of zero value to anyone considering buying a used Road Glide, because it will not be a Road Glide.

If you would like to ride a Road Glide, sell your used Ultra Classic while it's still an Ultra Classic, and that way you can get the best sale price for it. Then buy a used Road Glide.

It's your bike and if it makes you happy I say go for it. Forum member Redbeard719 converted his CVO SG and turned out to be one of the coolest bikes I've ever seen. I'd reach out to him for help if needed. I'm certain he has a parts list of what's needed. I've attached a link to his conversion thread.

I changed a 2006streetglide into roadglide . Bought complete fairing assembly and it was easy . Frame mounted bracket answering harness was plug and play. My bike was modified front front to back so as far as resale ,it up to the buyer. Individual would be better than dealer.remember you will need new bars

No matter how you slice it, if you -really- want a Road Glide, either sell what you have and buy one, or do a trade...

In my opinion I think you would increase the value of your bike but then again I am kind of biased.

if your bike looks like a road glide and is titled as a street glide, its gonna hurt the resale value. no one buying a used bike can trust much in a 'home built' modification job. Generally, you're probably better off trading your bike in for one, unless you get REALLY lucky and score a pile of road glide fairing parts and guts for a major discount. I've toyed with the idea for a while now, because i love the look of a RG with some big apes, but unless i happen across a full fairing with brackets and gauge pods off ebay for under $1000, i dont think its gonna happen, lol

I'm with Bates, go for it.. But if all your thinkin about is resale why do you have the bike anyway? Does every day and mile it's ridden bother you, that's most certainly dropping the resale value as well.. Say you do the conversion, it renews your interest in the current bike for a few more years by then the value will be considerably lower anyway. Enjoy the bike man.. I don't care how much my bike is ridden, what mods I do, or how dirty my bike is.. It's my bike

It's been done, so isn't impossible by any means. The new parts prices are eye-wateringly expensive, so look closely at the work involved and likely cost. If you luck on a secondhand fairing that has been removed, that could make everything more practical and affordable.
