Default Broken Clutch 2005 Road King

Clutch quit working. I was riding in city traffic, pulled the clutch in, lever didn't spring back. Clutch stuck fully disengaged, luckily for me, so I was able to coast over to the shoulder and shut it down. The cable is not broken, I pulled on it and it is still connected at least as far as the adjuster. I can freely move the clutch lever. Thinking something behind where it goes into the transmission side cover?

Before you go into the trans side open your derby cover and look at the clutch adjustment nut assembly.

Maybe, just maybe the snap ring holding the assembly popped off. If not, yeah maybe the snap ring or ball bearings on the trans side or something.

I decided a while ago to upgrade my clutch with a set of Barnett plus-one plates. What I found was a pressure plate close to failure, with the snap ring groove breaking away. Wouldn't have been too long before that failed. So follow lp's advice and take a look!

Here is a situation I have had with my 04:
There is a ball bearing plate that rides on a ramp just behind where your clutch cable goes into the r/h side of the gearbox cover . If you have the center adjusting bolt too far out at the clutch hub ( Primary side) It can rotate the bearing plate too far and it with go off the ramp and do exactly what you describe.
I have loosened the center adjusting bolt and gave the cable a ton of slack and was able to get the bearing plate back into position. if not, pulling the small cover to reset is not a big deal. Be sure to have the bike leaned over good so you Tranny oil won't spill out The transmission oil level stick can be removed and follow the cable to the arm, I believe you can see arm at the ramp on your bike.

Thanks for the replies. The city was about to ticket my bike and I was too busy at work to get to it, so I just had it towed to the dealership. Will post up what they find out.
