Who'da thought.....
I was reading about this new, slick, camplate from R&R. Aside from being rock solid, it vents the bottom end to atmosphere directly out the camchest. Being the logical thinker (read: bored) that I am, I can understand that reducing pressure on the back side of the pistons HAS TO help performance. In this case, blowby, pressure(s) from the opposing cylinder, etc can vent to atmposphere through the camplate, rather than having to route back up through the head breather circuits. Gotta be good, right? Pricey, but good.....
So, I order myself one and am very impressed by the customer svc @ R&R. It arrives and MAN, it's a piece of art... it's beautiful machine work! So nice, I figure I oughta take it apart to see what makes it tick...

After investigation, it's time to install.... cams pressed, oil pump rebuilt and lubed, plate fits in place like a glove. It looks good, even w/o the cover plate installed!
So I finish up my "normal" build stuff.... oil pump alignment, lifters, pushrod install / adjust, qt of oil in the camchest, etc.....
Getting close to done now....... just gotta hang the pipe ~ my D&D FatCat, of course!
Wait...... WTF!!!!!!!!!!
My FatCat WON'T FIT!!!!!!!!!!!! It hits this newDesigner Camplate!
Now what!!!!!!!!!!! I've totally psych'd myself out about this plate, now it's the plate or my pipe.... my pipe or the plate......
Well, thanks to my buddy Bryan, I have an alternative that I can use until I decide what I want to do long-term.
Anyway..... nothing is ever as easy as they say it should be. Heck, my DTT was easier than this sucker... and at this point it was cheaper!
Here's a couple pics of it.

You just didn't want Bryan to have them.....[8D] I think they look wicked sweet on your motor!!!
but what the hell is that pipe?

yea.... and then I went and had it chromed too!
Maybe I misseda post reviewing those pipes (double backs aren't they?), but I take it they didn't pass the test?

I saw an article about this in American Iron magazine last month, they did a complete installation. They did say that some modification to the front exhaust may have to be done. I like your solution, that looks real clean. Keep us up to date on how it all works after yopu get some miles on it.

Nice looking cover plate, I see you used the head pipes from Klock Werks. How do you like those pipes? I was interested in using them, but was concerned about the heat coming off of them and roasting my legs.

Zack.... Thinknig this might be justification to try a SuperTrapp, but $$$ might pose a slight delay in that "test".
Besides..... I just can't get past the look of CHROME pipes! I wonder if Bryan would mind if I painted these...????...[8D]
