Default THANKS and another question about intercoms

First I would like to thank everyone for all the help and all the information I have got from this site. My wife thinks I am watching **** on the Internet but really I have picked up so much info for my 07 Street Glide. It now runs screaming hard and sounds great.
My question today is anybodyout there hook up a intercom/radio headset for a 2007 Street Glide??.I know you ask why didn't you buy a dresser?? well I like the looks of the Street Glide and I do a lot of city riding..I am a musician and want to be able to hook up headsets(J&Mseem to be the bast I had them on another bike) I called J&M who state you must use the Harley intercom system. That's great but the 5 Harley dealers I called today say nope only on a electric glide. Itsthe same radio correct?? I just want the intercom harness that plugs into the large plug on the back of the radio and I will wire the intercom to a new console and place the passenger plug somewhere.Somebody must have hooked up the intercom radio without the rear speakers and tour pac right???? Any Help would be greatly appreciated. BTW I do have some great **** sites top pass along LOL

HarleyHowie ,,

you can put all the same HK audio system equipment on your Streetglide that is offered on the Ulta ,,,,,,, I know this to be a fact ,,,,,

we did it to one our own bikes and also our audio display system, on display right now in Myrtle Beach at our audio exhibition trailer ,,,,,

that was the whole reason behind Harley's new 2006 and later HK modular audio system ,,,,,, was so that folks who purchased streetglides, roadglides etc ((that were NOT Ultra's)) ,,,, could add the other features such as intercom and CB right from the Harley parts catalog ,,,,,,,

the exact Harley CB antenna part# for instance for the right side rail mount position on your streetglide is #76415-06 ,,,, which then matches the AM/FM antenna you already have in the left side position ,,,,,,

and you do NOT have to mount the rear speakers on your streetglide either to get this done ,,,,,,

why do 5 different Harley dealers tell you it can't be done ? ,,,,,, maybe they either don't know how or don't want to know how ?

HarleyHowie: The truth of the matter is that parts and service people at Harley stores are not knowledgeable about non-routine stuff. I won't bore you with my experiences, but just a simple example: many owners wanted to make the tour paks on their EG Classics detachable. Well the HD parts book didn't say that the detachable racks would work on an EG Classic; only RK's and EG Standard. But many EG Classic owners were able to use the detachable racks and mouting hardware by relocating their antennas, and removing the permanent rack.

As for your situtation, the 2007 P&A catalog provides for installing the Intercom kit, 76440-06, on the HK radio equipped Street Glides. So for your dealer to say they can't put an intercom on your HK radio equipped Street Glide is simply wrong--the HD catalog says you can.

The problem for you will be the HD plug does not mate with the J&M headset plug; one is a 7-pin, the other a 6-pin.

If you have the HD service manual for your bike, the wiring diagrams in the back will show what the pin assignments are and, presumably, you could create your own 6-pin connectors incorporating the functions you need.

The HD catalog does say that a flash of your ECM is required, but I don't know if this is to tell the bike's ECM that it now has an intercom, headset, or rear speakers, or all of the above.

I would be very interested to hear of someone creating their own Ultra radio plug for use with the HK radio and aftermarket headsets. Keep us posted.

HarleyPingMan ,,,,,

to connect the J&M headset to the Harley audio system, you just interchange the lower section cord, for the one with the 7-pin plug on the end ,,,,, that simple ,,

that is the whole technology behind the J&M exclusive "dual mode" headset, so that you can plug into any factory motorcycle audio system ever made just by interchanging the lower section cord ((see the headset pages at www.jmcorp.com )) ,,,,

sorry for the confusion ,,,, JMJOHN ,,, john@jmcorp.com ,,,,,
