I have a new set of ohlins 2 Series shocks newly installed. Although the shocks are terrific, my Harley backrest no longer will secure down to the hardware. Not sure if anybody has come across this but can I install the shocks upside down and hopefully without hindering shock performance.
The picture with me pointing at the top shock mounting section is where the pivot point of the backrest sits
How is your backrest anywhere near the upper shock mounts?
Backrest has a pivot point and a locking point. The Pivot Point sits on the shock absorbers mounting hole.
The other half locks on the hardware. This is normal

the detachable sissy bar (passenger back rest) on my 16 road king mounts to the upper shock mounts and the forward pair of the four point docking hardware

I just edited my original post to show pictures. My finger is pointing to where the pivot portion attaches. The other picture shows how the locking mechanism no longer locks

Yeah, I was just trying to respond to the other poster that wondered how it could even interfere...
but looking at your pictures, I'm not really clear which end is the problem... with the ohlins mounted upside right, there's not enough space on that mount for the front mount of the detachable sissy bar? Because it looks like you can just rotate the rear latch and get everything to fit
Hmmmm... off topic but I notice you have a lot more preload cranked into the adjusters than I do, & I'm on a heavier bike (Limited Low).
As for the shocks... I take it spacing them out won't help?

You should have been given spacers with the shocks that are about 1/4". This should move the shock away from the backrest mount (shock mount) to allow it to be installed and clear the shock. You will have to shim out the bottom accordingly to keep the shock running square. The shims required may not all be the same top and bottom to achieve this.
