I just purchased my first Harley (an 07 Road King standard).
My question is that when I start my bike ( fuel injected) I turn it on and let the yellow engine light go out. But after it starts the yellow light comes back on and stays on for a second or two and then goes out. The salesman told me that was normal and not to worry about it.
Well is that normal?
Couldn't find anything in the manual on troubleshooting this.
That is called a historic code, which simply means at some point your ECM logged a code and it hasn't been cleared yet. If the light stays on then it's a current code. Take it to the dealer. They will have to hook it up to the digital tech and read and clear the code. Unless the light stays on, don't sweat it, just have it cleared.
The engine light does a self test of the system (sensors, ECM) when that is complete the light goes out. If it is comming back on there is some thing that is not with in spec. Could be a loose wire or a sensor not with in tolerance. Bring it back to the dealer. Talk to the service department not the salesman. It is not normal.
Welcome to the forum! Me, once the problem is corrected I would then go back to that salesperson and inform them of the fix, forfuture reference. Then inform them if they don't know the correct answer to direct them to the person that can give them the correct info.
