I have a 2015 Street Glide and just had a scary experience with my wife. I have a touring Hammock seat and backrest. For those from Northern California, we were riding from Lake Berryessa to Rutherford and Napa, we were on a twisty section and she fell asleep and slumped to the left as I tipped into the corner, I had to let go of the handle bar and grab until she woke up and pulled herself up. Scared the crap out of me as this has never happened to me before. (Many miles logged with passenger but new wife and she has only ridden with me a handful of times). I ordered a tour pack set up from my local dealer (I know you can get them cheaper online).
Now for my question, for those of you who have passengers who fall asleep are you running passenger armrests? Or the curve of the tour pack enough? What brand of arm rests, HD or kuryakyn?
Very dangerous situation. Happy to hear everything ended fine. I know my gf dozes off the odd time and is ok with just the tourpak. I told her that if she finds herself getting tired to put her hands under the strap on the seat, so if she starts to go off to the side her hand pulling out should wake her. I do dread the idea of her falling asleep at all, but she's not interested in getting the arm rests and says it's only a half asleep and that she is always somewhat alert. I don't know what the answer is, but i'm sure armrests could only help. HD are expensive, but I did check them out and they look well built.
Depends how tight she fits back there. My wife is on the small side and we had same thing happen with tour pack on. Put the Harley arm rests on and she has slept back there for many, many mile and haven't lost her yet. Plus if she's like mine and falls asleep easy back there arm rest will give you one less thing to worry about so you can enjoy the ride.
When I was in the Army, a buddy and I rode all night on my naked Honda 305, taking turns up front. Both of us slept in the back, wasn't a problem. Waking up was a moment of feeling strange, though!
