I have patched & plugged several tires & never had an issue. I put glue on the inside, lit a match to it then put the patch on & smeared glue around the perimeter of the patch.
C'mon guys, what harm can a small nail do to a tire? It leaves a tiny hole that can be plugged without any danger to the tire at all. Why buying a new tire when you can fix it. No tire will blow up because a small hole caused by a nail. And what about "Ride-On"? Everybody swears about this stuff. What does this magic goo do to your tire? Right. It plugs the hole and the tire remains safe. But it is everybody's own decision to do what he feels it is the right thing to do.
Some punctures in motorcycle tires may be repaired.
Dunlop recommends only permanent plug-patch repairs of small (maximum 1/4-inch diameter) tread-area punctures from within the dismounted tire by a qualified tire repair shop or motorcycle dealer. Never perform an exterior repair and never use an inner tube as a substitute for a proper repair. Speed should not exceed 50 mph for the first 24 hours after repair, and the repaired tire should never be used over 75 mph. Advise your customer to check inflation pressure after tire cools for at least three (3) hours following run-in, or sooner if air loss is suspected. See the Dunlop Service Advisory for additional motorcycle tubeless-tire repair information. Follow the same repair procedures for tires on rims requiring tube replacement. The repairer is solely responsible for the repair and any instructions to the repaired-tire user.
Advise your customers that no form of temporary repair should be attempted because secondary damage caused by a penetrating object may not be detected and tire or tube deflation may occur at a later date.
Dunlop does not recommend the use of liquid sealants. These are a form of temporary repair, and they may adversely affect ply material and mask secondary damage caused by a penetrating object. Advise your customers that reliance upon sealants can result in sudden tire failure and accident.
I had a nail after 500 miles on new tire. Plugged it on the road and put another 12k on tire. Buddy had nail in rear tire. Plugged it on the side of the rode in Wyoming. In 45 years I have never seen a plug come out. Never had a tube patch come off either.
This thread just became my tire source. Never thought about people throwing new and low mileage tires away. When Im in need of a tire, I pay shipping and a couple beers for ya. You send me your almost new tire.
I have a tire on my old rim that has 2000 miles on it just pick up some rims off a 15 that have less than 1600 miles just hate to throw a good tire out and yes I can switch the tire from one to the other just lazy don't want to not as good with the spoons as I once was, going to change one from the other have to take the rubber damper out anyway. I have put over a season on a plugged rear before
Currently running two rear tires with StopNGo plugs. One was a nail in the tire and the other was a clean puncture and whatever punctured the tire did not stay in the tire; both in the center of the tread and both tires with less than 2K miles. Plugged on the side of the road and both holding air while they sit in the garage between rides. The guy that does my tire installs is a local road racer that holds track records at a couple of local tracks and he rides on plugged tires. If the puncture is in the "flat" part of the tire, the size that is within the tolerance of the plug and the tire still has plenty of miles to go, plug it and ride on.
