Default Street glide stock shock question

I'm looking at changing my stock 16 road King shocks to lower the bike. I am looking for street glide takeoffs and am a little confused about part numbers. Everything I have researched shows they come with 12" shocks, but I keep coming across a list of stock shocks someone compiled with part numbers. Basically the last two show a part number of 54661-02A (12") and another 54662-09 (11.5). So I guess my question is did the street glides offer both sizes or is this information incorrect. Thanks

First, be aware that the lengths of shocks that are often quoted are nominal, not precise, so 13" stock shocks are actually a little less than 13", same may apply to the shorter versions. You can check part numbers on-line here, which should clear up the confusion you have on that front - there's no substitute for going back to raw data! As an example, the stock air shocks on a 2016 SG are #54662-09.

I'm no expert about short shocks, but later model hand adjustable shock will obviously have a different part number than non adjustables yet both will be 12 inch shocks.

The 54661-02a and the 54662-09 are both 12' low profile air shocks. The later having a lighter spring rate.

Don't do it!!! Street Glides come with the worst shocks on the planet. They are garbage! Get Ohlins or Progressives

Ok thanks guys exactly what I wanted to find out.

Just curious but if I went with an 11.5" rear shock could I leave the front alone with no issues other than aligning headlight?

Yes, you should be fine with shorter shocks, you won't be the first, by any means! By all means check headlight alignment.
