Default Cruise Control Problems

Just purchased a 2005 FLHTCUI Ultra Glide with 36,000 km or 21,600 miles. Came over from the Roadstar world so I don't know a lot about Harley's. It had a safety and is a great ride. While out riding I tried the cruise control, flipped the switch on the fairing, amber light came on, pressed the "SET" switch and waited a couple of second but no green indicator light came on nor did the cruise control engage. Read on line about a test where you turn on the cruise switch and hold the set switch to on turn on the ignition without starting and the amber light comes on when off and the green cruise light comes on. I read if you let go of the "set" the amber comes back on and and green off, this system can be tested the same through the resume, brake etc switch to see if your having a problem where the problem is and from what area. Does these work on a FLHTCUI? I did this and could not get the green light to come on while holding the "SET" lever so I assume it's the "SET/RESUME" switch that is defective? Don't know where to go from here and don't want to be changing multiple parts if it's not needed. I also understand that Harley has stopped supplying some of these parts for the cruise control. Can anyone shed some light on this topic?

Thanks

Doc

Please use a smaller font. That one is really hard on the eyes.

I'm away from my manual but if you Google HD cruise lash adjustment I think you may find that is your issue. Switches can go bad but on 3 different bikes including mine it was the lash adjustment. Also make sure your brake light is not sticking as this will disable the cruise and is indicative of a faulty brake light switch. Usually the front one is the problem.

I had to to disconnect the wires from the throttle cables, just in front of gas tank right side. It was the roll off switch on the cable that was bad on my 07. Could also be one of the switches front or rear brake. Bet its the cable switch. just have to tap brakes to shut it off.

On my 07 it was the roll of switch. Just pull one of the leads off it and see if that helps. Also, as said, sticking brake switch cancause same issue. After applying the brakes check that the light is off
