Default Cruise Control Won't Set

The cruise control on my 2007 RK Classic won't set. It will turn on with the left switch (light turns red), but it won't set with the right switch (light won't turn green). Anyone have a similar problem?

Easiest thing to check is make sure your brake lights aren't sticking on. I had that problem with a previous bike (not a Harley) I owned with cruise. A minor adjustment to the switch on the rear brake and the issue was solved.

I hope your problem is that easy, otherwise you've got some electrics to diagnose.

Good luck,
Steve R.

Could be a faulty front brake light switch in the throttle grip housing.

Search Curise here - there is a thread that deifned how to make sure the cruise is iniitalized OK. The roll-off switch is a main culpret.

I had this happen after I change my handlebars. Look and see if you brake light is on all the time. If it is on, the cruise will not set. I found that I had moved the brake light switch within the housing. It was just sitting a little **** eyed. I straightened it up and everything works now. The brake lever wasn't pushing the plunger in far enough to shut off the brake light. The tech at HD said these little switches break real easy. I suppose I was lucky that mine just moved. They were trying to convince me that I needed a new one though Go figure!

Yes I have,,,,, it was the roll off switch under the tank,,, I bypassed mine,,, still just pull the front brake or rear brake to disengage the cruise same as a car, works just fine now haven't had a problem since. Good luck!!

Had the same problem with my '07 FLTR this summer - second day out on a three-week putt. The switch was bad. HD has superceded the switch with a new (and significantly more expensive) one, and Thunder Mountain HD had it in stock. No problems since.

On my 2005 RK I had exact same problem. It was the switch assembly in the right handle bar housing.

I had problems with my roll off switch and just disconnected one of the wires from it and everything is fine now. That switch is like **** on a boar hog anyway. Worthless.
