Went from Fat Bob, which rocked for my first bike, loved it. Soon as I took my first long trip, I knew I needed a bagger.
Went to a peach of a Sedona Orange SG. Brother coveted that bike, so when an Atomic Orange CVO RG came available, (worked out nicely it was at the dealership in his city ) it was load em up, and hit the road to get me a new bike, and recycle him the SG !
I actually like both alot and loved my softails for 12 years. For some reason, I always liked the batwing, hence my SG. Maybe from growing up and seeing the old school touring bikes. That said, the double headlight look of the RG's is pretty badass.
Only this: DO NOT BUY WITHOUT A LONGISH TEST RIDE!!!!! The RG is a fantastic ride and my son just bought a 2016 S that he loves. The RG is going to feel taller and heavier especially at slow speeds over your FB. You will probably love it and you said you had a SG (what year?) although to me the pre 09 framed touring bikes with the narrower rear tires were easier at slow speed than the more-steady-at-higher-speed new framed bikes. Just saying, TEST RIDE. I have owned two road glides and two street glides, I prefer the RK but I preferred the wind protection of the bat wing over the shark nose (both of my RG's were pre 15 models and had the older fairing). I prefer the looks of the new RG over the bat wing. The RG is truly rock stable at speed. TEST RIDE. Did I mention TEST RIDE?? OH and get the antilock bike whatever you choose, It has literally saved my skin if not my life.
We went from Softtail to EGUltra to RGUltra... never looked back.
Our 2013 just rolled over 42k and we're headed for the Oregon coast next month.
I would not go back... and I ride to work every chance I get... barring needing my truck.
I love it on the freeway, streets, parking lots, twisties; don't care for the large stone gravel!
We were able to do a week long test ride before purchasing--but the first 5 miles and my girl said "This is it!" and I agreed.
Good luck.
Of all the threads I have seen of guys that made the switch to a shark nose the ones that regretted it where very few and far between. The vast majority wished they would have bought one sooner.
