I'm thinking that the fork oil didn't get changed during my 20,000 service which means I wont be going back there anytime soon so on that note, how difficult to do it myself. I have fairly good mechanical skills and access to a bike lift. any tips would be greatly appreciated
even better, do them yourself. then you know what was or was not done.

not trying to throw anyone under the bus but was told that the fork oil should be changed at around 20 thou. If not then I guess there no reason to be concerned . as time goes on more service and repairs will be done by me when needed.

On that note, what is the point of a drain screw (?) if the manual requires this?
On my old FLSTF I drained via the screw at the bottom....

I wouldn't replace non leaking fork seals on a drain and refill. It's just more work that you probably won't need to do unless they start leaking. (which is unlikely if they aren't already)
Now if you're taking 50K miles and up, yes I would do it. But not because the seals might start leaking. You have to disassemble the fork to replace the bushings so new oil seals will need to be fitted.
