Unhappy Bummed out

I'm having rotator cuff surgery in the morning so looks like I'll be out of the saddle for awhile. Anyone else had this done and how long did it take to get back on the road? It sucks getting older!

All I can tell you is to follow the doctor's orders. My buddy had both shoulders done at different times. He decided he was ready to work on his 4x4 van & ride. A few months ago he had to have another operation to fix what he screwed up. Now he'll have some problems do deal with the rest of his life. Good luck.

Had both rotator cuffs done years ago, then in January 2016, had one shoulder replaced. Therapy is the key to recovery. Don't cheat while doing it. Sure, it may hurt a little, but the benefits are well worth it. If you cheat, you're only slowing your recovery and range of motion returning to where it should be. It took me almost 5 months to get back on, but listen to your body (and the Dr./Therapist) and you'll know when. Heal first!
Be safe and best to you!

I've had two shoulder operations. one for a rotator cuff and one for a slap tear. neither were much fun. rotator cuff took a while to bounce back from. i think it was close to 3 months before i could use it well without pain. as mentioned, therapy is the key to it. you will be like a limp dishrag for a couple of weeks, at least i was. i started out in hydro therapy because i couldn't lift the arm at all. eventually, got it all back. good luck. don't push it. follow dr.s orders and get the ok from them before you ride. jmho

Yeah it does suck getting older but like the others are saying, follow the docs orders. You should start Physical Therapy within a week or 2. At first it's tough then after 3-4 weeks you start moving at a good pace. My doc made me wear a sling for 6 weeks and sleep sitting up in a recliner. Had my operation in January so by the time it was warm enough to ride I was almost ok. Oh yeah, you'll also learn to wipe your butt with your other hand real quick:-)

I had total shoulder repaired after a bike accident. Only thing not replaced or fixed was the bones themselves. Took 6 months of PT to get back to work. Doc said 1 year to 18 months before i got back to work or riding. I was going nuts so i pushed it in PT pain is temporary riding and working for a living is a must. Take it slow but steady and push thru the pain some.

I had my cuff re-done and I was off my bike for about 3 months. When I finally got back on, it was with pain and not as much mobility as I wanted, so I stayed off it for another month. Stick to a LOT of physical therapy and hold off on the bike. Don't push it. Trust me, the bike will always be there. Get the shoulder correct first.

Had rotor cuff and bicep tendon surgery done 2 years ago. Follow your doctors plan and make the effort to do ALL the physical therapy and you'll be fine. My doctor wouldn't allow me to ride for 6 months, but she also told me she doesn't promote motorcycle riding too. I'm glad I followed her plan, I have nearly all my range of motion back and am enjoying my wind therapy again.
