Brand new ultra. 260 miles and the front pipe is tuned gold just past the front chrome shield (right by the floor board) Is this normal?? bike is bone stock
Yes. The run lean. I have an '07 Road Glide and it did the same. There are many threads on this forum that talk about this and some solutions - use the search feature.
Its normal. Harley sells a heat sheild that covers that area. Its about $82. Its a shame that the bike does not come with it. Anyway I bought one and it looks great.
Bluing may mean you are running hotter than gold (more lean). However, it could just be a matter of time. I've got 1375 miles on my '07 and it is just starting to turn blue.
My father has an '07 EG with more miles and his turned blue (stock with SE Slip-ons only).
I just added an SE Stage I a/c, the Stage I ECM Download, V&H Ovals and a V&H Fuelpak. I am keeping an eye on that section of pipe to see what happens. I also will dyno the bike next week to see the new air-to-fuel ratio from 0-6000rpm.
I was hoping to get thru the breakin without them turning. Havin Rinehart S/O's ..se air cleaner and Sert installed after breakin (and when they get the sert) then it will be dyno'd
Kuryakyn sells what they call, 'Bridge the gap' heat shield. It is $29.99 and the part number is 9196. And it fits between the two existing sheilds. HD is $79.95, part number 65694-05A. It is a one piece that replaces the front sheild and butts up against the second sheild. Hope this helps.
