He probably installed an oil temperature sensor in the oil pan for an oil temperature gauge. Alot of us have done that and tossed out the POS air temp gauge.

Do you have a link to this oil temp you refer to,i would love to replace the ambient gauge but dont have any ideas, thanks
You probably loose about 3 or 4 ounces. Every time I change my oil filter, I just stuff pieces of old terry cloth bath towel beneath the filter, terry cloth absorbes ALOT. There will still be some mess, but nothing much. About five minutes of wiping up is about it. I've always used chrome filters myself, but am considering using black next time. Since my engine is black powder coat AND chrome I could use either or.
Ya know, I was using the chrome filters and then when I did my big bore I was changing the oil out during the break in process and didn't want to spend the money for the chrome one since it was only on there for a little bit so I got the black one for those couple of times. Now I don't think I'm going to bother with the chrome one, just throw it out every so often anyway
A while back I saw a product that HD once made that is suppose to reduce heat. From the pics on ebay it looks like a chrome spring type thing that fits over the oil filter. Not sure how, or if, it works. Just mentioning it.
I have been using one of these. Actually I started using it on my Dyna, kept it and put it on my Classic. I does seem to work. I have never really done any tests or anything but I know I have never seen my bike over 210 degrees.

Anyone have the part number or a link? Im thinking this is something I need to check out.
Can't seem to find that cover I was refering to on ebay. I will find it, but may take some time. I will post about it once I find it, unless someone here finds it first.
FLHT, can you post a picture of yours? Want to see it on an actual bike. I did a search on ebay and found a couple different styles, but was more expensive than the ones I was refering to. I will look for it.
I found that slip over oil cooler I was talking about on ebay. Item # 230133664124. $35 bucks, plus $5 for shipping. FLHT, is this the same one you have? I was looking at them, if they work. Let me know guys. There has to be somebody out there that has one, or has something to say about it. Thanks...
