Default Mini Apes

I am thinking about installing mini Apes on my 2014 street Glide Special. Can anyone tell me what size I can go with the stock cables and electrical if I can go higher at all without extending everything. Thanks in advance for any information.

Why do you want to keep the stock cables? Dont be penny wise and pound foolish, buy the most comfortable bars for you, and whatever is required. Why sacrifice comfort because you want to keep those hideous stock garden hoses?

I have the LA Choppers 10" Twin Peaks on mine. Stock cables are fine.

Well of course, but completely misses the point.

If he would be more comfortable with 14's why buy 10's because you get to keep your cables? Silly.

He asked "how high can I go", my point is, you should rather ask "how comfortable can I be"?, then buy what you need to be the most comfortable

Everything I read here and there, 10" seems to be the magic number to use with stock cables. Some say 12 but the cables are stretched. Some dealers have demo bars you can try (some say have a friend stand next to you with a tape and measure where you feel comfortable with your hands, close your eyes and pretend you are driving). If you have something laying around, not using, worth about $200 you can sell here, add that to price of Apes you really want and add that to get cables. Fleabay has lots of options for about $500

Or you can go to Sturgis, walk down the main street and sit on a few bikes that have the bars you like. Hahaha,, just joking, I wouldn't advise that.

I put WO577's (12.5") on my 14' SGS. You will need bars and Canbus wire extensions with bushings highly recommended, clutch and brake cables need rerouted. In my case there would be no room to go higher without purchasing longer clutch and brake lines.

Put them on myself at a cost approximately $260.

I have the HD mini apes and did not have to buy cables or wire extensions. I did have to re-route the clutch cable and wiring harnesses in the fairing, however it was not difficult. I like the comfort much better over stock, hands are few inches below shoulders so the blood stays flowing and I catch a little air across the tops of the hands.

I put 12" monkey bars on my 14 SGS and all I had to buy was the Namz wire extentions the clutch and brake hoses too a little massaging to get them so they don't nor will they ever bind. That being said I would have been smarter to wait for the 10" so my hands would be a little bit behind the fairing when riding. Im not disappointed just giving a honest opinion.

Whether you need different cables will be determined by more than the height of the bars, but also the width, pullback & how the cables are routed. So, if you'd be comfortable with a narrow width and little or no pullback, you could go quite a bit higher in rise. Probably not likely, but I've seen some strange set ups. I think Keithhu has the right idea, be comfortable and spend the extra bucks if need be.
