Default Vied

I have an '11 FLHTK that I installed a Vied. Regardless of the setting, it doesn't seem to make a difference. Does anyone know of to check the Vied to see if it is functioning properly?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Be sure to have the ground wires connected to the battery ground. Other than that I have nothing.

What was the reason you installed the Vied? What were you trying to accomplish?
What did it not do?

Me too.
I can't tell if mine are working either. My bike never ran hot or pinged and never backfired with the Fatshotz. Installed these just because and zero change.

they are a resistor pack which alters the signal from the o2 sensor- the ecm "thinks" the bike is running a little lean at "normal settings" so makes a little richer-

for those of us with fixed value xieds about 8% richer under most riding conditions ( part throttle cruising- the ecm uses pre-canned maps at wide open throttle and when cold- so the xieds/vieds are not in the circuit).

if you are unsure of settings, go with teh reccomended settings and leave there, altering if you experience pinging- from what i experienced on the 96", up a 6% grade at 2800~3200 rpms was where mine wanted to ping ( completely stock)- and the vieds solved that- I later swapped to a high flow exhaust and intake to continued good result.

this year I am playing around with a fuel pak I got cheap and so far there is no advantage- and some "issues" which I am still working through...stay tuned for a fuel pak for sale!
The xieds will be going back on I think

Mike

You should have a better throttle response, tan plug color vs. white. Run a few tanks of gas and if they are working correctly you will see a mileage drop by a few MPG

Congratulations, you now understand how worthless they are.

Why do you say that? Used properly with the right expectations they are a great stop gap measure until a bike can be properly tuned.

I picked up a stock decatted header for $80 and a set of vieds for $70. Bike runs much cooler than stock which is exactly what I was after. I'll ride the bike until I feel it is good and broke in and then I'll have it dyno tuned and sell the header and vieds for whatever I can get.

=================================

I think there could be an issue with 09 & older vs 2010 & newer HD's which is location of the 02's.

09 & older has 02's in ex pipe inches away from where the pipe connects to the ex port which makes for good accurate monitoring of each cyl's 02 reading separately along with the 02's also getting up to a higher op temp temp too.

I have an 09 and have adjustable vieds on it,1st tried 25 setting and didnt feel/hear/see any diff ,went to 50% setting and WALLA,the motor idled better & the slight / mild lean surge it had along with slightly soggy/mushy throttle response was gone too.

But i have a feeling there could be problem with 2010 & newer hds that causes them to not respond as well to the Vied mod as my 09 did which is the fact 2010 & newer hd's toruing bikes have the 0'2 located much further downstream in the front head assembly in very close proximity to each other too.

This could not only cause an issue with cross talk of the 02's possibly sending misleading & or not so good/robust data back to ecm for fuel control/management along with them also requiring additional heating to operate properly due to being located much farther away from ex ports.

Then add to that the 02's on 2010 & newer bikes being much further away from the heat & ex flow/pressure from ex ports can make the fine wireonn the 02's more likely to get a dirty possibly resulting in not as good/robust feedback from the 02's on 2010 & newer hd's to the ecm for fuel control/management too unless you do regular cleaning maint of 02's by running something like chevron techron inj & 02 cleaner thru the bike 1x-2x-3x yrly depending on mile ridden to keep them clean & operating @ best efficiency all the time.

Now i dont know for 100% sure if thats the case or not with 2010 or newer toruing HD's having 02's located much further downstream, but what i do know is this ,i have read mult posts here in hdfoums over the past yr or so from guys that had installed the Nightrider Resistor mods on 2010 & newer hd's and said there was little to no noticeable improvement in perf at all which wasnt the case for me on my 09 with 02's located much closer to the ex ports.

The fact i have read there little to no improvement statements from more then just a few guys that installed Nightrider resistors on their 2010 & newer HD's & keep seeing them for sale in the classifieds for 2010 & newer HD's too is showing a trend which says something.

Just maybe i am onto something with 2010 & newer hfd's,or maybe not, only time will tell on that one if we continue to see posts of guys with 2010 & newer hd's posting little to no improvement when they install Nightrider Resistors.

Happy motoring.

Scott
