It is the release agent, used to enable the rubber moulding to be pulled away from the mould the tyre is made in. Without it the rubber would probably stick to the mould, at best putting up a fight to get it out. Tyres have probably been manufactured with a release agent since long before any of us were born! It may be that the stuff you talk of is a different stuff to other brands - it may even be a super special stuff, best thing since sliced bread sort of stuff, but it will wear off in short time, just as all other release agants do.

Hope that helps!

Some car tires come with a algae or fungus barrier applied. It is a PIA to get off. Not sure if this is what is on this particular tire but its possible. This "Barrier" gets down into the rubber and makes the tire have a brown tint to it

Kris, did you dismount and mount your own tires? If so how did it go?
I'll need new tires soon and I'm thinking of doing the mounting my self, I have done all my own truck tires myself, had my own trucking business fo years.

Thanks!

All comments are welcome.

Ya know, I will need to look close at them. I wont be home till Friday, but will take a look then. But this would make complete sense if it were the case, cause like I said, it's a little tougher to wear off.

I have a local indy that does the tire part for me and I remove and reinstall them. I am going to try to use the Ride on product this time. I have spoke wheels and tubes and they say it works well with tubes too. I will report back after its all done, but will be a while, I still have some tread left on my current set.

Just FYI it was a brown color stuff, so maybe the algae that was talked about is the case? I was happy to see that I was not nuts and it was above and beyond the standard release agent. I did scrub with simple green, but the real difference was after I did a few miles on a sand-gravel-dirt road. Guess that's another advantage to rural life, the dirt roads are always an option. Hope this helps someone in the future.
