Need some help here. New 2016 ultra classic, 6 miles on it. Had a high pitch whining noise coming from left side of engine area, salesman said it was normal and would go away after if was broke in. 835 miles later, same noise. Took it to dealer and they couldn't solve it, so they ordered a new motor for it. Changed fluids to synthetic and put harleys thicker oil in for primary, got it back and that noise is gone. Driving it around I started hearing a whining or slight whistling noise coming from same area. Especially around 35 to 55 mph at about 2500 to 3500 rpm. I've checked everything for loose bolts on fairing. Had a buddy ride it and he can hear same noise. I rode his and can hear same noise just not as noticeable. He doesn't hear anything on his bike. Am I just focusing on it or has anyone else have similar issue? This is so aggravating and I'm headed to ths dragon and gauntlet in one week.
If I had a bike with less than 900 miles and not happy with it, I'd take it back to the dealer. Get them to fix it, or at least document your issue so if something does go wrong later you will have proof you reported an issue.
That said, the primary chain does take a while to bed into the adjuster foot, that may cause a whine...
They definitely know about it and is documented. On the primary I have just over 1400 miles on it. I'll let them know again when I take it in for service in about 400 miles when the new engine has 1000 miles.
"Took it to dealer and they couldn't solve it, so they ordered a new motor for it." Are you saying the dealer replaced the whole motor and it still makes the sound? The transmission on my 2016 RGS make s a whining sound especially in lower gears and it's normal. It could also be the fuel pump.
It's a different sound than first one, not as noticeable. Other one you could hear at idle or riding. This one is only at riding speed and higher rpm range.
