Congrats!! I did the same thing a few months back! I switched from an '05 Dyna Wide Glide to a '14 Street Glide Special and I couldn't be happier!
As others have mentioned, it's obviously a VERY different bike. I looked like a complete goof on the first ride because I was so used to the forward controls that I really couldn't find the floorboards when I first picked my feet up, haha. It's crazy at how much better this thing handles at low speeds than the Wide Glide. And not having the Wide Glide's 'bicycle' tire in the front, again it's awesome at how it handles and no longer really 'finds' the road imperfections like the previous bike did. I still love the Wide Glide, but I absolutely LOVE this bike all around and wouldn't go back.
Big recommendation! Check out a Klock Werks Flare windshield. I debated and reviewed for a good while on this (my other Spoiler shield sucked on the Dyna) and eventually decided on the Flare. The stock 4" shield looks sexy, although I wasn't entirely happy. I found a Harley dealer that actually had the "Try a Flare" program and tested it out. Took that baby down the road, hit everything up to 75mph and went back to the dealer about 25min later and handed him my card; SOLD! Absolutely terrific over stock. He actually let me take it home until my new one came in about four days later! (Everyone's different, but for reference I'm 6'0" and the 6" shield is ideal!)
Definitely post some pics of that GORGEOUS Whiskey Amber colored beast!
Good luck!
My pride and joy!
i had a flare shield on the dyna fairing it wored the best
You'll love the touring bikes for sure and you won't notice much on the extra weight. I rented an SG and a King when I was deciding. The SG was very stable at highway speeds and very nimble at slower speeds.
Welcome to this side of the fence, and post some pics when you get her home.
Switched from a Wide Glide to a bagger several years ago. Enjoy the bagger but there are times that I miss the Wide Glide, wish I had the resources to have been able to maintain both.
I traded my '08 Low Rider for a '12 Street Glide yesterday. I could have ridden all day because of the added comfort. I never thought I would want a radio but after a day I'm liking it. Hopefully the heat index will drop down to double digits and I can put some more miles on it.
I couldn't get rid of My 94 Convertible. With the cams & Pro Pipe , it puts a grin on My face every time I ride it. For the long haul is where the Ultra comes in. 200 miles or less I consider the Dyna. Over 200 the Ultra wins out.
a little heavier, but you will likely be surprised at the low speed stability- also the wider front tire makes nice on highway expansion joints and grooves.
enjoy the radio!
Mike
Front tire on the Street Glide is the same size as what he had on his Fat Bob.
Congrats. My first Harley was a switchback. While in for it's 5K service, the dealer had me take a street glide out for a spin. Came back and we started talking price. I spend upwards of 2 hours a day and 15K miles per year on it...so the difference in ride is a big deal.
The switchback was black...and the street glide was the morocco gold. I told the wife "Wow...they washed it and it looks like a whole new bike."
