Default Need GPS? Plan "B"

I have used my Garmin and now my 2015 Infosystem - However, there may come a time OR someone here needs a "Plan B" GPS. While on a cruise in Norway last year - I was on a small boat in the middle of a Fjords 'canyon' Saw a friend with his IPhone out and a map - I ask what is that he said GPS - I ask how do you get service out here? don't need it??? Well, when I got back on board and had Wi-Fi I had to check it out

Maps.me http://maps.me/en/home

This is a FREE app that can give you GPS pretty much anywhere in the world and you do NOT need cell service to use it

disclaimer - you DO need cell service or Wi-Fi to download the app AND download any "maps" that you think you may need. We travel a lot and before I go, I download the maps "from home" I think I may need - going to England and the Baltic next week - I will download any map I may need BEFORE I go and once in the area, tap on the APP and it will find me.

I am NOT suggesting this as a stand alone GPS for your bike - but it could be - more of a plan B if needed. Lots of people us the phones a GPS but need cell service for them to work - this one you do NOT - but it needs the maps for what ever area downloaded first.

Check it out and see IF it could work or help you out

Just another 'Tool' for your tool box

I have CoPilot as my "Offline" maps and "offline" GPS.
I have it installed on my tablet too. Good way to check out the roads or plan your route when no data is available.

It's in Google Play and Apple App Store and even has a version for Windows phones.

I run the Waze app on my phone, very cool. Works offline too if needed.
