Default 2005 or 2006??

I will be picking up a new 2005 EG Classic soon but have the option of getting a 2006 for only $200 more. Should I go with the 2006? What reasons are there for and against the 2006 model over the 2005 and vice versa? Any help is appreciated.

For 06 the stereo has been upgraded to the new H-K unit with several modules available for adding XFM, GPS etc. The only downside is that starting with the 06 model, HD won't be supplying ECM maps as downloads for any aftermarket modifications. No big deal if you add a race tuner or powercomander

I went with an 05 only because the EPA regs kicked in for the 06 models.

My understanding of those regs, as posted at the EPA website, is you can not legally remove any pollution control equipment OR make any mods that will increase emissions on the 06 and subsequent models. I also understand there are catalytic converters in the mufflers of some (if not all) of the 06s. On those models, changing out the mufflers would consititue removing a pollution control device.

I know many dealers and individuals are continuing to modify the bikes. I think it's only a matter of time before a dealer gets whacked as an example to others.

My bigger concern was that they will change the State Safety Inspection rules for motorcycles and not pass it if it's been modified, like they will with cars.

That's my take on it. YMMV.

2006 would have a better resale value and should offset the $200 difference. Go Vikings!

Well let me throw in a little kick here , I went with a 06 EGStandard and had 203 cam's installed, now I had some issue's with the first set of pipes that I installed but that has been fixed, I also had the remap installed at the dealer on friday and it made a big difference, I have Rush mufflers, that's what the dealer recommended for proformance, them or the SE pipes but the Rush mufflers are louder, you will also get the clutch upgrade with the 06 bike, your choice but I would talk to the dealer about upgrading the 06 and see what they say.

Buy an '05... '06 touring models ALL have catalytic converters according to the 2006 owner's
manual. And they have they're share of problems.

I have an '06 and would buy again. Most people are changing the exhaust so the catalytic converters won't matter. I'm not sure about all these '06 motor problems people are speaking of, but I would guess you can have problems with anything bought. it's a chance ya take when buying anything.

Spend the $200 and go with an '06 plus better resale as posted.
